THE SERPENT THAT BEGUILED EVE

In Genesis 3, it is written that the serpent beguiled Eve to eat of the tree of knowledge. This was forbidden by God. God told them they would surely die if they ate from this tree. The serpent being subtle in his ways said to Eve, “you shall surely not die”. The truth is that she did die, just not then. Death was not possible for them until they ate of that tree. Now was this serpent a snake? Hardly. The serpent was none other than Satan.

In Revelation 20:2, it is written “And he laid hold on that dragon; that old serpent; which is the Devil and Satan and bound him a thousand years.” What was John of Patmos (St. John the Divine) referring to when he said “that old serpent”? He was referring to the serpent written of in Genesis. How would a snake speak to Eve? The serpent was just a metaphor, as was him having to crawl on his belly.

The great mystery, which I cannot go all that far with is what God told Eve and the serpent about their descendents. Read with an open eye and watch it unfold with what happens between Cain and Abel. That’s as far as I can go with that.

Eve helped Adam to sin by eating of the tree of knowledge. They realized they were naked and covered themselves with fig leaves. What was Satan’s purpose in trying to get them to eat of this tree? As is written in the original Greek, Jesus is the foundation of this age, not the world. Therefore he was destined to die for our sins before Adam and Eve sinned. Someone was bound to eat of this tree. Someone was going to break this rule, it just wasn’t supposed to be Adam and Eve. What Satan did was to cause sin and death to come upon our creation before it’s just due time. He wanted to corrupt our creation as early as he could, which he most certainly did. For this, he was punished again. What I mean by that is written in the blog “The Difference Between Lucifer And Satan”.  I’ll leave a link to this blog below.

Obviously a snake didn’t speak to Eve and cause her to eat of the tree of knowledge. Satan was the one to convince her to eat of the tree and had Adam partake in her sin. At that moment, sin and death were invented for our creation.
